A good friend an I went hiking Saturday on the mountain for a little more than 2 hours. The hike took us across the ridge and down across two small creeks. This was the first time for me in this area. I was surprised to fine the huge rocks with the spring.
Southeastern five-lined skink
Ferns emerging
Dwarf crested iris, native to our area
This looks like a Eastern Fence lizard but I am not sure. He looks somewhat prehistoric.

the skink was cute, but that lizard is awesome! 🙂
I thought so too, he is pretty cool looking 🙂
You know, you could harvest those fiddle head ferns and have a nice fiddle head salad 🙂
Yes but I have never tried it, have you eaten them?
heck no—but I’ve been tempted 🙂
That is one big lizard! Where do you live? And the waterfalls are beautiful. Tanks
Hi Karla, yes, pretty cool lizard! We live in the northern most part of the South Carolina mountains on a mountain. 🙂
Before coming to Australia, my meetups with lizards were quite rare but they’re everywhere here. What a great walk – I wish I’d been with you two.
I’ve seen pictures of the cool Australian lizards 🙂
What a great place. It looks like it would be nice and cool there by the waterfall.
It’s great to have the mountains all the wilderness here, it’s so much fun. It was cool around the waterfall, the water was really cold too 🙂
Such nice images. Looks like a beautiful day.
Such pretty country! It looks like spring has finally arrived!
Yes, finally! 🙂
That must be some mountain to hike and you chose a great day to do so. Those iris are beautfiul.
I liked the first lizard, but that last one looks a bit scary! 😉
The last one was large but not as huge as your lizard! He was purple on his underside 🙂
Wow! What beauty unfolding on your mountain! Love the ferns and wildflowers! Our skinks have shown up this last week, too. always fun to find them. Best wishes, w

Good afternoon Elizabeth! Yes finally, spring is here and pollen is everywhere. I think the tree pollen count is higher than last year 😦 sinus are a problem today!
Yes yellow cars here, too. Not sniffling so far, even after most of the day outside pulling weeds and spreading mulch. Waiting for the rain… Hope you feel better soon,

I see you and your area is already a spring, Great 🙂
Greets from Poland 🙂
Yes, everything in the last week has taken off and growing fast. We have not had a hard freeze for a couple weeks until last night. It got down to 29 degrees F and most everything got burned 😦
That lizard is huge! You always come across the neatest things on your hikes. You must have a very good eye!
Yes he is huge, I walked up on him, didn’t see him until he took off across a fallen tree. Took me 10 minutes to get two pictures but it was worth it. 😉
I LOVE what I call “above the tree line” Irises! Beautiful pictures!!!
