Mountain Laurel & Rhododendron

Mountain Laurel grows wild all over the mountain and is in bloom. It is absolutely specular this year! The first and second picture I took today while on a hike of the Mountain Laurel, very beautiful!

Purple Rhododendrons are also in full bloom! I also took the Rhododendron pictures in our garden today.

Purple Rhododendron are beautiful but so are the pink! Check out the next few pictures of the Pink Rhododendron blooms!

can you spot the tiny ants and insect on the blooms?

So which do you like the best, the Mountain Laurel or the Rhododendrons?

Enjoy your evening!

Check out my handcrafted Black Walnut Feathered Crotch Sushi Board. The colors on this board are beautiful!

Spring Flowers

I snapped a few pictures while walking the garden today and thought I would share a few spring flowers! In this post you will also find Hosta Guacamole.

The above picture is Hosta Guacamole, this is after the hail storm we had on Tuesday morning and Tuesday afternoon. We had a thunder-storm that lasted 40 minutes that brought nickel size hail. Then again that afternoon we had another thunder-storm that lasted 35 minutes that also brought hail but was ping-pong ball size. All of my hosta look like this, it made me sick because hosta do not re-grow their leaves but once a year in the spring.

Enjoy your evening!

Capers Blades and Blue Tips

caper blades and blue tip oysters

Above picture – Capers Blades

I spent the last few days this week at Isle of Palm with my friends, together there were  six of us. We had a big house with a pool that was one block off the beach. This house was huge and had 6 master suites.

Above picture – Blue Tips

We all enjoy eating oysters, so we ate oysters each night at different restaurants, Pearlz, Boathouse, etc. The above picture is Capers Blade oysters, these are elongated and are delicious.

I love all oysters but my favorite are Blue Tips, all with a little lemon, sauce and horseradish!

Do you like oysters? What is your favorite?

Hand Mirrors

Many of you might think that all I make is cutting boards, serving boards, cheese boards, etc. but I also make hand mirrors too! I made 9 hand mirrors this week for customers, pictured above is a right hand and a left hand mirror made from Walnut. Walnut is by far the most popular wood for hand mirrors.

After sanding smooth, I then finish the hand mirrors with 4 coats of a hard, low gloss poly. The poly helps bring out the grain and protects the surface.

Enjoy your week!

Easter Desserts

I made several cakes for our Easter dinner yesterday afternoon, the first one I made was the coconut cake! This is a four layer cake with an old fashion coconut icing. It is awesome 🙂 This recipe has been handed down thru our family for many, many years! If you like coconut cake, you would love this recipe. Coconut Cake recipe!

The second cake was a chocolate cake covered in chocolate ganche! Delicious!

Ok, here is the question, which cake would you choose? Or would you choose both?

Happy Easter!
