I snapped a few pictures while walking the garden today and thought I would share a few spring flowers! In this post you will also find Hosta Guacamole.
The above picture is Hosta Guacamole, this is after the hail storm we had on Tuesday morning and Tuesday afternoon. We had a thunder-storm that lasted 40 minutes that brought nickel size hail. Then again that afternoon we had another thunder-storm that lasted 35 minutes that also brought hail but was ping-pong ball size. All of my hosta look like this, it made me sick because hosta do not re-grow their leaves but once a year in the spring.
Enjoy your evening!
Check out the beautiful photo of my Walnut board that was taken by Aubrey Jenkins!

That poor hosta! Your other pictures look like some of the other plants fared a bit better?
I have a lot of hostas and they all look like that one, everything else did pretty well except my table grape vines. They already had small grapes on them and most are gone.
Crumb. So they are done for the year?
Yes, they are done for the year, that’s how hosta grow.
I meant the grapes?
Sorry, Yes, the small grapes that the hail knocked off are gone so only the remaining few grapes will make it unless we have another hail storm. Out of all my vines I have 1 vine that is late blooming and has flowers on it this morning. This one is a green table grape so I should have a good harvest on this vine! Enjoy your weekend! 🙂
Thank you Michael!
When I lived in Tennessee I had hosta growing under some big trees. I always loved it. I also loved the Smokies in Spring with the rhododendrons and the wild flowers.
Hi Maureen, The hostas were beautiful this year before the hail. The rhododendrons are going to be beautiful this year too!!
The flowers and plants are just beautiful Michael. Had to drag out the winter coat again today, brrrrrrrrr very chilly.
thank you Suzanne! We are supposed to have freezing temperature tonight, the forecast is showing 31-32 but we are usually 4 to 6 degrees colder. I hope we don’t get it! 🙂
sorry about the hail damage to your plants, but hoping your roofs and vehicles are okay! 🙂
My wife was out so her car has hail damage that we hope will be repaired tomorrow. 😦
Oh dear, sorry about your hostas! Lovely photos. 🙂
I’m sorry about the hostas Michael—we’re slated for more storms this weekend—ugh–
the board in the photo looks amazing—
congrats on the great PR for your works—truly deserved!!
hugs—Julie
Good morning Julie!!! I am slowly getting over the hail damage to all my hostas, not sure that I have shared with you but I have well over 500 hostas. Yes, storms here too Saturday and maybe Sunday, just hope no more hail!! I hope you guys enjoy your weekend! big hugs! 🙂
I love your photos. That is a shame about your hostas. Storms and winds have been bad around here too. Love your walnut board!
thank you Mary Ann! We are supposed to have storms all day Saturday into Sunday. I hope you guys have a great weekend!
So sorry about the hostas and all the other hail damage. It’s a gamble every year, isn’t it. At least the rhododendron flowers look intact – enjoy those pretty flowers Michael!
Yes, always a gamble, thought we were going to have a late spring hard frost last night but only got to 31 degrees F, not cold enough to hurt anything. The rhododendron flowers are going to be beautiful this year, can’t wait! Enjoy your weekend Cathy! 🙂
Our hosta are really popping out now. I am sorry about your hail damage – but those rhododendrons are gorgeous! I miss the mountain laurel. A lovely walk on a beautiful mountain! Hope you have a terrific weekend.
I hate we had the hail but I guess it could have been really bad, more damage than what we had. The rhododendrons are beautiful and the mountain laurel have just started to make flower buds. It won’t be long and they will be blooming too! I hope you guys enjoy your weekend!!
Poor plants! Luckily we didn’t get any damaging storms here. Gorgeous photo with the board as well.
So sorry for your host a Michael . The ones that you sent me look great . With grandbaby 🙂
Yea, I hate the hail, seems like about every 2-3 years we have hail in the spring right after all the hosta totally leaf out. I am so glad your Lemon Lime Hostas are doing great. 🙂
Will send you a photo when I get home . …
You’re much farther along than we are Michael. Too bad about the hosta leaves. I grow over 200 hostas and I’d hate to see that happen.
I hate hail anytime, especially in the spring and summer. My H. Francis Williams, H. Blue Angle, H. Sum & Substance,,, all my really hostas with huge leaves are all shreds. 😦
I’m sorry to hear that Michael. I have all of those and I’d hate to see them shredded. The ones with the big leaves really make the hosta garden.
I agree with you Allen!! Enjoy your weekend! 🙂
If it makes you feel any better… My hostas look much worse after the deer munch on them….
Oh I hate that the deer got your hostas! I have a lot of deer around us but they don’t see to touch my hostas! Enjoy your Sunday 🙂
Very vibrant colors in the first two shots. I love spring flowers. How sad about your Hosta’s. Your cutting boards are wonderful.
Hi Ida, thank you! Yes, I hate the hail, it made a mess of almost everything. Thank you so much!
Such beauties, Michael. Rhododendron, walnut cutting board…
But I feel sad for your hosta. Same thing happens to mine from time to time. The large-leafed ones look the worse after a hail storm.
Thank you, yes I am sad too about all my hostas! I have a lot of big leaf hostas…Sum & Substance, Blue Angel, Elegans, etc… and they are all a mess! 😦
I think I had a Blue Angel once – I couldn’t believe how blue the leaves were. Sorry about the mess. Seems this happens once or twice every year. How will you handle the upset when you walk by? Shall I send you blinders or some such thing?
Good evening Cynthia, I have gotten over all the hail damage, I walk and work in the garden everyday but blinders are a thought, haha! 🙂
Those carnations – at least that’s what my nana called them………..are gorgeous! (they are the really right pinkish/purplish flowers)
thank you Kelli! 🙂
