We are very lucky that we have wild mountain blueberries growing all over the mountain. It’s nice to hike around, hiking and eating the blueberries. This year we have an abundance of wild mountain blueberries. I think this year’s rain has help produce more blueberries on all the bushes. For the year we are over our average rain fall by 9 inches, like 11 1/2 inches. Seems like we have had rain everyday! On July 4th we had over 3 inches of rain.

As you can see in the picture, the ripe blueberries are deep mauve with a grey bloom looking almost blue. They don’t all ripen at the same time, so you’ll need to hand pick and watch the bushes every couple of days for more ripe berries. Assuming the berries make it back to the kitchen, don’t wash them until you are ready to east them! The blueberries can also be frozen in freezer bags for using later. Blueberries are great in your favorite cereal, cakes, ice cream and morning blueberry muffins.
Blueberries are extremely good for you. More and more these days the media is full of stories about blueberries because the fruit contains high concentrations of antioxidants.
