Favorite Lunch

Lauren was married on Saturday, she was very beautiful, the dress was gorgeous on her and she is very happy! She had a outdoor wedding, with an inside wedding reception dinner. They are now gone on their honeymoon but she will be home on Saturday evening!

When we are at the beach we enjoy eating boiled shrimp and oysters on the half shell! Today for lunch we decide to share both! Love both the shrimp and oysters, both are great with a cold beer too! 🙂

Today the temperature is now at 100 degrees F with a 112 heat index, almost too hot to be outside. The Atlantic Ocean is like bath water and the pool water is hot at 87 degrees F. Looking for late afternoon rain showers to cool everything off!

Hilton Head is a great place to vacation!

Looks like he caught Dinner!! Not sure what it is, maybe part of a fish!

I love watching and taking pictures of the Great Blue Heron, they are magnificent birds!

Only a couple days before the 4th of July, I hope everyone doesn’t have to work and plans to spend time having fun! Maybe grilling out with the family and friend!

Crazy Crab

While vacationing in Hilton Head Beach, South Carolina we always enjoy eating seafood several times while we are there. Crazy Crab has the best fried seafood on the island. They also have boiled, broiled seafood, crab, king crab legs and lots more, including a children’s menu.

They have several locations but the location on Hwy. 278 is larger and the wait is not as long as the smaller location that is at the Sea Pines Marina.

When they first come to your table they will bring you a basket of hush puppies and boy they are really delicious! 🙂 I promise, they will be the best hush puppies you have eaten and because they are so good you just can’t stop eating them. I think between the three of us we ate three baskets!

All of the seafood is fresh, just hours off the boat. We had eaten so much boiled shrimp and oysters on the half shell with cold beer the last two days prior so we wanted fried seafood that night!

If you like seafood and you are in the Hilton Head area I would suggest giving Crazy Crab a try. Good food, good prices, free hush puppies, indoor and outdoor bar and during the evening they have someone playing and singing to entertain everyone. For the children, there is an outdoor play ground! Outdoor seating is available over looking the marsh lands.

do not feed alligator-sign-at-Hilton-Head-Island-South-Carolina

Not too far from our condo at Hilton Head Island are lakes, ponds and marsh land. All around this area are a lot of alligators, some small but most are large alligators. Some of these alligators are monsters in size, you would not want to get close enough to feed them. I would be scared that they would charge me. If you have ever seen an alligator charge or run you know what I am talking about, they are quick.

This alligator was cruising along until he saw me and then he stopped, waited to see what I was doing and then continued toward me.

Check out this article about a huge 1000 pound plus alligator that was caught this month at Hilton Head, South Carolina, Whopper Alligator Caught on Hilton Head Island.

Along the edge of the lake and ponds are thick trees with egret, heron and anhinga nesting all full of babies. The alligators wait under the trees hoping for the baby birds to fall into the water to eat them.

Wading Birds

Yellow-crowned-heron

Yellow Crowned Heron

Wading birds are generally sleek birds with long beaks which they use to hunt in shallow waters.

The Yellow Crowned Heron is one of the most beautiful of all the Heron. I saw two Yellow Crowned Heron along the shore but they did not want their picture taken. Every time I got close to them they took off further down the beach. I had to keep following them to get a couple pictures.

Brown Pelican

I have seen a good many Pelicans hanging around and in flight. The most I have spotted flying in formation today was 27 but they were just too far away to get a good picture.

Baby Anhinga just about ready to leave their nest

I watched for about 30 minutes several of the mother Anhinga fishing and then landing near their young to feed them. They could hop around from limb to limb but just not able to fly yet. These couple of pictures of the Anhinga in the trees was over 200 feet away.

The Anhinga have webbed feet because they dive into the water and swim to catch fish. Before they can fly again they have to let their wings dry. That is why you will often see them with their wings spread. I posted a few pictures last year on the Anhinga, click to see my post from last year, Hilton head Large Birds

I had to hike thru the woods hoping to get a couple of pictures of the baby Egrets but the trees were just to thick so I decide to shoot a couple of pictures thru the trees. If you look closely a these two pictures you will see baby Egret.

This Great Blue Heron was hanging around a bridge where several children were fishing. When they caught a fish they would toss it to her. Someone along the way it looks like she has gotten hurt.

Shrimp Boats

shrimp boats hilton head sc

These shrimp boats are docked at the Crazy Crab Seafood restaurant in Hilton Head South Carolina.  They trawl for shrimp from May to December and all the shrimp they catch is used at the restaurant. Crazy Crab has really good seafood and the best ever hush puppy’s.  🙂

Hilton Head Large Birds

Blue Heron

We love to vacation at Hilton Head every summer. During our vacation I am always looking for the large blue herons, egrets and anhinga. There are alot of fresh water ponds near our condo and the heron and anhinga are always hunting for food in these ponds. I will often see a few Alligators’ in the ponds along with large turtles.

anhinga

Anhinga

This Anhinga dove into the pond before I could get a picture but I got this picture as he was swimming across the pond. Once the Anhinga dive into the water for fish, they will sit in the sun to dry their wings and will not dive back into the pond for more fish until their wings are dry.
