Mountain Laurel grows wild all over the mountain and is in bloom. It is absolutely specular this year! The first and second picture I took today while on a hike of the Mountain Laurel, very beautiful!

Capers Blades and Blue Tips

I spent the last few days this week at Isle of Palm with my friends, together there were  six of us. We had a big house with a pool that was one block off the beach. This house was huge and had 6 master suites.

We all enjoy eating oysters, so we ate oysters each night at different restaurants, Pearlz, Boathouse, etc. The above picture is Capers Blade oysters, these are elongated and are delicious.

I love all oysters but my favorite are Blue Tips, all with a little lemon, sauce and horseradish!

Do you like oysters? What is your favorite?

Hand Mirrors

Michael's-Woodcraft-handcrafted-hand-mirrors

Many of you might think that all I make is cutting boards, serving boards, cheese boards, etc. but I also make hand mirrors too! I made 9 hand mirrors this week for customers, pictured above is a right hand and a left hand mirror made from Walnut. Walnut is by far the most popular wood for hand mirrors.

After sanding smooth, I then finish the hand mirrors with 4 coats of a hard, low gloss poly. The poly helps bring out the grain and protects the surface.
