Raccoons, Bring One Bring All

I moved my trail camera to catch the bird feeders so that I could see what was happening during the night. It started early around 10:15 PM and continued all night into the early morning hours.

bobcat Reconyx trail cam picture

I decided this morning to pull the sandisk memory card from my trail cam and see if I had any good pictures. It is always kinda fun to see what animals have been on our property. I had the usual animals, deer, raccoon, ground hogs, coyotes  and always a lot of turkey. Every now and then I will get a black bear but this is the first time I have gotten a bobcat. I have seen this bobcat many, many times but I have never caught him on the trail cam. The last time I saw this bobcat he came running off our front porch as we drove up our driveway. I figured he was looking for our cats.

These pictures were taken by my Reconyx Hyperfire trail cam mounted on a tree  along my driveway. The lights you see in the background are on our gate. I really enjoy my Reconyx trail cam. Each pictures is date and time stamped in the upper left hand corner, an image of the moon is shown and the temperature.  Look at the time stamp on all these pictures. My trail cam took three pictures in time sequence, then the last picture was taken 2 minutes later than the first three. The bobcat is about 15 to 20 feet from the camera.

The bobcat is the only native wild cat that we have in South Carolina. they generally weigh between 9 and 30 pounds. As you can see they are small but muscular with their hind legs longer than its front legs.

They are very secretive cats and are nocturnal preferring thick wooded areas for hunting. Here in the mountains of South Carolina we have a good many bobcats.

wild male eastern turkey

I decide to pull theSanDisk card from my Reconyx trail cam today and had a over 50 pictures of wild eastern turkey, 20 plus night pictures of raccoons and a a few of a red fox. Most of these turkey pictures are males, tom or often called gobblers. Tom turkeys have a beard,  a snood on top of their head, dark almost black plunage around the neck and the extra claw or spur behind the foot. Click on the pictures to enlarge to see the details I mentioned!

My Work

Wild Mountain Turkey

It rained heavy nearly all night and morning. The local weather channel said we got another 3/4 inch of rain. I wanted to go pull the SanDisk card out of my trail cam but it was raining to heavy. We’ve had over 14 inches of rain now in July. It finally stopped raining around 11:00 AM.

When I pulled the card I found a total of 199 pictures since the last time I pulled the SanDisk card. Alot of wild mountain turkey activity again, raccoons, possum and one black possum. This turkey picture was take by my Reconyx HC600 Hyperfire Trail Cam on July 24, 2013 at 4:08:06 PM, it was 77 degrees at the time of the picture.

Out of all the turkey pictures, this one is really good because it’s a close up. There were four close up pictures but this one was the closest.

I don’t hunt, I just like to see pictures of all the wildlife around us. This Reconys HC600 Hyperfire trail camera is great. It takes pictures when is senses motion, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Having a trail cam is alot of fun!

Another wild turkey picture post.

Mountain Wildlife

Since we live on a mountain surrounded by thousands of acres of wilderness, I decided to set up a trail cam so that I could get pictures of all the wildlife around us. So far we have pictures of wild turkey, deer, red and gray fox, coyotes, possum, ground hogs and raccoons. There is more wild turkey this year than past years.

Years past you would hardly see any turkey, that’s when we had a lot of coyotes. There are not so many coyotes now, not sure if someone killed them or they just moved on. Anyway, I am glad they are gone for now.
We have a black bear that shows up occasionally to raid the bird feeders but I have not been able to get him on camera yet. I had saw him a couple of times, yep, it was male and he was huge. Love all the wildlife!

I have a Reconyx Hyperfire trail camera, it takes great pictures. This trail camera gets everything that walks in front of it.
