Wood Care
The more you use your board the more scratches and knife marks you will have, this is normal. I always suggest that you choose one side for cutting and the other side to keep nice. All board orders come with care instructions. Care instructions can also be found here, click here.
With heavy use, any cutting board can pick up occasional foul odors & unwanted food remnants. Follow these simple steps and your board will stay clean, fresh & presentable for generations to come.
CLEANING: Hand wash only, do not place in a dishwasher. Use warm, running water, it is ok to scrub it with soap & sponge. Once the board has been thoroughly cleaned, dry immediately with a clean cloth or paper towels, allow it to air dry. Lean the board against something so that it is not flat on your counter, this will prevent moisture from being trapped and allow your board to completely dry.
Never soak in water or allow to sit in standing water, as this can cause the board to warp and/or crack.
ODORS: Has your board picked up a funky smell after prolonged use? Sprinkle some course salt across the wood & rub it in with lemons for a boost of freshness!
OILING AND RENEWING: Apply a food safe oil, wood conditioner after cleaning your board or if the board becomes dry or loses its luster. It is ok to allow the oil or wood conditioner to sit on the board for up to 24 hours before wiping excess away with a clean, lint free cloth .
SANDING AND RESTORING: If the board feels rough, sand with 220 grit sandpaper before applying the food sale oil or wood conditioner.
DISHWASHERS: NO! Never. Absolutely not.
Questions about our boards
HOW LONG WILL MY BOARD STAY NEW LOOKING?
The more you use your board the more scratches and knife marks you will have, this is normal. I always suggest that you choose one side for cutting and the other side to keep nice. All board orders come with care instructions. Care instructions can also be found here, click here.
HOW CAN I PURCHASE YOUR WOOD CONDITIONER? HOW SHOULD I CARE FOR MY BOARD?
Wood Condition is a special blend of 100% food grade mineral oil and pure beeswax. The combination of oil and beeswax adds a protective coat and soft luster to the wood. We recommend applying the Beeswax with a soft cotton cloth. Detailed instructions can be found below. Caring for your board often with Wood Conditioner will protect the surface from bacterial growth, prevents drying and cracking of the wood adding a lustrous finish.

HOW DO YOU FINISH EACH BOARDS?
We finish all boards with a food safe mineral oil, then seal with food grade mineral oil and food grade beeswax.
HOW SHOULD I CARE MY BOARD? WHAT TYPE OF FINISH DO YOU USE?
It’s very easy to take care of your board, check out our Wood Conditioner page for care instructions. My Wood Conditioner is an all natural finish, 100% food safe finish and I use it on all my boards.
HOW DO I REMOVE STAINS AND FOOD ODORS FROM MY BOARD?
Stains: Most often, surface stains can be removed depending on the type of stain. Sprinkle a little kosher salt on the cutting board and then gently squeeze some lemon juice over the salt. Use the flat side of the lemon to rub the salt and lemon juice around the stains. Acid from the lemon juice will help with disinfecting. Sprinkle some baking soda over the lemon juice and rub gently with a kitchen towel. Rub for a few minutes, in small circles. Rinse the lemon juice and baking soda from the cutting board for a minute or two under lukewarm water. Pat dry and then air dry, do not lay the board on a flat surface, allow your board to dry upright.
WHAT IS THE LEAD TIME ONCE I PLACE MY ORDER?
All of my items are handcrafted one at a time once I receive an order. Normal lead time is 7 to 10 days (except weeks with Holidays) but could be a little longer based on my current work schedule and number of orders I have in hand at the time or special engraving. I will include in my email to you the best estimated lead time. I ship twice a week, and always email you when shipped along with the tracking number.. If you have any questions please contact me, email: michaelswoodcraft@yahoo.com
WILL MY ORDER LOOK EXACTLY LIKE WHAT I SEE IN PICTURES ON YOUR WEBSITE?
if you’re ordering one of our items from a picture that has not been sold, the item pictured is what you will receive. All other pieces are custom made when your order is placed. As is the nature of wood, no two pieces are alike. While we aim to recreate each piece as closely as possible, the look and grain pattern of each piece will be unique and one of a kind. Please also keep in mind that all computer monitors display color differently. As a result, the color you see on your screen may be slightly different from what you see once you have the piece in your hands. Please ask questions when placing an order if you are looking for specific woods, etc. and we will do our best help you.

Hi Michael!
I am overwhelmed by your work! I’m writing from Austin Texas where ice cream is breakfast, lunch and dinner right now:) We are traveling to our camp in MA on July 30th and I would love to take an engraved ice cream scoop with us! I love the patriots handle although I would be happy with anything available for the short notice. I would like to have:
Camp
Summer 2016
…engraved. Do you think that’s possible before we leave?
Thank you!
Allison
